Qualities/Actions: Marshmallow root is commonly used to soothe sore throats and digestive issues, making it an essential item for anyone looking to support their overall wellness. Additionally, it can be used to promote healthy skin and hair, making it a must-have for anyone interested in natural beauty remedies. 


Marshmallow root supports gut flora, providing prebiotic starches for the gut bacteria to feed on. It's also useful for diarrhea and constipation.


For diarrhea, soak the powdered root in a small amount of water for a minimum of one hour to overnight. Drink this concoction (warning, it will be slimy). When it's drank in this form, it works to absorb more water once it gets to your gut. To use for constipation, you can add root powder into a cup of water and drink. The bulking fiber in the root will assist to hydrate and move the stool out.


Antidiarrheal: Used to alleviate diarrhea.
Anti-inflammatory: Controls inflammation, a reaction to injury or infection.

Aperient: Used to relieve constipation. Gently causes the bowels to move.

Demulcent: Rich in mucilage and can soothe and protect irritated or inflamed internal tissue.

Emollient: Softens and soothes the skin.

Expectorant: Helps the body to remove excess mucous from the lungs.

Vulnerary: Assists to heal wounds.


Common Use: Infusion.


Safety: Marshmalloiw is considered safe, however, the use of mucilage in general is contraindicated in catarrhal and congestive conditions.


Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
